A lot of the businesses we work with have been around for years and have grown by making things work as they went. While they were busy running the business, their systems and processes couldn't keep pace.

The information usually already exists. It's just sitting in spreadsheets, in inboxes, in systems that were never connected to each other, and in the heads of the people who have been there the longest. So getting a straight answer means asking a few people and waiting. There's no product you can buy that sorts that out on its own. It takes working out how the business actually runs, deciding what to change and in what order, and then building it.

How we work

We build it one component at a time.

Rather than disappearing for a few months and presenting the finished thing, each part is built and given to your team to try out while the rest is still being worked on. If something isn't right, it gets picked up at the point where changing it is straightforward.

We also don't propose anything until we understand the problem. A lot of money gets spent in this industry on solutions that were decided before the problem was understood.

We start by talking to your team

The people doing the work know where it breaks down, so that conversation happens before anything is designed or quoted.

We map what's actually there

Your data, processes and systems set out on one page, including the gaps and the places where the same work is being done twice.

We build in stages

Something working every couple of weeks, given to your team to try out, so the direction can be corrected as it goes rather than at the end.

We hand it over with training

Your team runs it day to day, with documentation to match, and we're still available when something new comes up.

A project — Outwest Concrete

A business that had grown faster than its systems.

Outwest has been around for many years and has grown by making things work. While they were busy running the business, the processes and the digital tools didn't keep pace, so there wasn't a straightforward way to see what was happening or to plan ahead. There was an enormous amount of data and a lot of manual work, tasks were getting lost between teams, and the systems they had weren't talking to each other.

We went through the data, the processes and the systems, spoke with people across the teams, and then started building their portal one component at a time. That became OUTWEST ONECURE.

Your attitude of “let's find a way” instead of “it can't be done” has been a huge part of making this vision a reality. Your professionalism, creativity and commitment have been outstanding, and you've become a genuine extension of the Outwest team.

About Cinder

Started after years of watching problems go unfixed.

Cinder came out of years spent working inside businesses where everybody knew what was broken and there wasn't the willingness or support to fix it internally. People absorbed the inefficiency until it became baked in, and the cost became hidden.

When something looks hard, we work out what the system actually has to do, then build it to work the way the business needs.
